Hungry? – How to make Arroz Doce!

Hungry? – How to make Arroz Doce

Hi, I am Iris (Dutch) and I work and live in Portugal since the 27th of August 2019. One of the good things about Portugal? FOOD, definitely. I love sweet desserts (unfortunately, my diet doesn’t). Last weekend we celebrated Easter with food and drinks for a whole army. On this special day, Senhora donna Clara shared her recipe, and together we made Arroz Doce (sweet rice). Now, I have the pleasure to share it with you!

Ingredients that you need

Ingredients

- 1.5 cup of sugar

- 2 Cinnamon sticks

- Cinnamon powder to decorate

- 1 cup of rice

- 2,5 cups of water

- 2 egg yolk

- 1 lemon peel

- 1 litter of milk

- 1 pinch of salt

Let's get started!

Step 1: Put it in the pans

Grab 2 pans and fill them according to the following:

Pan 1: Fill the pan with rice, water, and salt.

Pan 2: Fill the pan with the milk, cinnamon sticks, lemon peel, and the sugar

Step 2: Just keep stirring and stirring and stirring

Make sure that you keep stirring in the pans. This is important because otherwise, the ingredients will stick to the bottom. While everything is getting ready, add some milk from the pan to the egg yolk. Next step: add the egg yolk with the milk to the pan. Why in this way? So the egg yolk can get used to the temperature of the milk.

Step 3: Mix everything slowly together

Remove the lemon peel and the cinnamon sticks from the pan with milk. If the rice is cooked, put little by little the milk in the pan with rice and keep stirring until you are done.

Step 4: Put it in a bowl and decorate

The last steps are to put the rice with milk in a bowl and finish it with cinnamon powder. Be creative and let the art person in yourself speak.

Step 5: Time to eat! Enjoy your meal

The most important thing of all the steps: enjoy that delicious dessert that you just made (or perhaps breakfast, I don’t judge you).

I hope you will enjoy making the dish! If you have questions about it, please feel free to contact me. If you want, you can always follow my blog to keep updated about my journey here in Portugal.

Love, Iris
